Storms that moved through Arkansas late Sunday and early Monday morning destroyed some homes. Now disaster teams are assessing the damage. Brigette Williams of the Arkansas Red Cross says high winds knocked over power lines and toppled trees in some areas.

“There was one person with minor injuries from this storm, but Arkansas was really in a high-risk area,” said Williams. “The National Weather Service had actually designated our area as a particularly dangerous situation and at one period we did have a succession of tornado warnings come out very quickly. Fortunately, we dodged a bullet unlike our neighbors in Alabama.”

Williams says so far Red Cross crews have found 10 homes with damage in the Dallas county area and have provided emergency shelter to two families. Families were also affected in Phillips and Cleveland counties and are getting additional assistance.
