Michael Hibblen

Reporter / Anchor

Michael Hibblen can be heard every weekday afternoon during All Things Considered in his role as local host and news anchor.

He is a 20-year radio veteran, who recently returned home to Arkansas and KUAR after 12 years of covering news in Miami, Florida.  He started as a volunteer on Little Rock's KABF while a junior in high school, playing alternative rock and spoken word.  He would go on to get paying radio jobs as a DJ at stations throughout Arkansas, including Benton, England, Paragould and Jonesboro.

After an internship with the C-SPAN cable networks in Washington, he returned home to Little Rock in 1993 and started working as an anchor and reporter for commercial news station KARN.  During the mid-90s he also worked as an anchor and host for KUAR and covered much of the Whitewater trials of President Clinton's former business partners for National Public Radio.

After a brief stint anchoring newscasts at WRVA in Richmond, Virginia, he moved to Miami in 1997 to work as a street reporter for WIOD.  In 2000, he became a national network reporter, covering Florida news for CBS Radio News.  Among the stories he covered then were the 2000 Presidential election recount, the custody fight over Cuban boy Elian Gonzalez and the anthrax attack at a Boca Raton-based tabloid publisher.

Most recently he spent nearly six years with The Miami Herald, where he worked as Assistant News Director for the newspaper's radio department, which, as part of a news partnership, provided all local news for NPR station WLRN.  He also wrote frequently for the paper.

Michael has won a dozen awards over the years from the Associated Press in Arkansas and Florida and the Society of Professional Journalists.  He is a native of North Little Rock and enjoys biking in his free time.
